That’s the equivalent of 1 in 2 of the population of Kent and Medway having an appointment in General Practice in April 2023.

GP practices teams are working hard why are they so busy?

  • Recovering from an IT failure that lasted almost 1 week.
  • Dealing with backlog of work built up over the pandemic.
  • Delivering seasonal covid and flu vaccinations to our most vulnerable patients
  • GPs are seeing a huge rise in mental health conditions following the Covid pandemic.
  • GPs are supporting patients waiting for hospital care
  • Kent & Medway has the lowest number of GPs per head of population in England.

How can you help?

  • Get the right treatment when you need it: Stop, think, choose. Visit the Kent and Medway ICB website for further information
  • Waiting for hospital treatments: please contact hospitals directly to check waiting times. Visit the Kent and Medway ICB website for further information
  • Please be kind to our staff who are working very hard for you.
  • You may not always need to see a GP, receptionists will be able to guide you to access the most appropriate healthcare professional
  • Covid is still with us, we have a duty of care to patients at most risk from covid, if requested to do so please wear a mask when attending the surgery.
  • More than 35,000 people did not attend their appointments in February. We would urge anyone who can no longer attend any appointment to cancel them. This allows the practice to use the time to see other patients in need.
