Spirometry pre-attendance information
Please attend the spirometry clinic Snodland Medical Practice, Catts Alley, Snodland, ME6 5SN. Your surgery will let you know which location you will be attending and we will advise you if it changes.
Your appointment will last approximately 40- 50 minutes.
Before your appointment, please stop/avoid;
- wearing tight clothing
- smoking/vaping 1 hour before your appointment
- vigorous exercise 1 hour before your appointment
- eating a large meal
- drinking caffeine 2 hours before your appointment
- using salbutamol inhaler 2 hours before your appointment
- long-acting bronchodilators 12 hours before your appointment
Please check with your GP if you are unsure of anything listed.
You can continue any inhaled and oral steroids.
Please bring any existing inhalers with you to your appointment.
Please do not attend if you have had any of the following recently:
- IF YOU HAVE HAD A CHEST INFECTION, WITH OR WITHOUT ANTIBIOTICS, AT ANY POINT IN THE 6 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT, PLEASE CANCEL AND REBOOK VIA YOUR GP SURGERY AS WE WILL BE UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE SPIROMETRY TEST.
- Active infection eg. AFB positive TB
- Dissecting/unstable aortic aneurysm
- Current pneumothorax or prior pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
- Recent surgery within last 6 months inc. eyes, chest, abdominal, brain or spinal
- Any other condition that may cause serious consequences if aggravated by forced expiration.
- Undiagnosed chest symptoms e.g. haemoptysis
- Recent (within 1 month) heart attack (myocardial infarction)
- Uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure) or pulmonary embolism (blot clot in the lung)
- History of a stroke
- Communication problems such as learning disability or confusion
Please check with your GP if you are unsure of anything listed.
We will send you a reminder text a few days before your appointment. However, if you have any concerns or are no longer able to attend your spirometry appointment – please call the PCN on 0333 332 6700 and select option 3.
